The Guitar is an extremely and perhaps the most versatile instrument and it is suitable for almost every genre of music including classical, jazz, rock, folk, country and various other styles from around the world. As well as being very portable it can be practised quietly and can be purchased cheaply.
How does it work?
Our Guitar workshops are based on activities in group where each pupil has an opportunity to be engaged in musical and fun activities and at the same time to learn different skills on the instruments.
Guitar Club activities often include:
+ Understanding of all basic techniques and exercises to develop these.
+ Understanding of Chords and Melody through performing songs which include both
+ Recording opportunities during each term.
+ History of some genres of Popular Music through and to perform in those styles. i.e. Blues and Rock music.
+ To understand what improvising is and to improvise in the pentatonic A scale.
+ Diverse vocal and rhythm exercises to improve coordination and vocal skills
What type of Guitar and which size shall I buy?
Our Guitar courses are for acoustic Guitars. We do also teach popular music in our Guitar clubs such as Rock and soundtrack parts but for health and safety reasons and increase noise level, we do not use Electric Guitars during our group clubs. It is always recommended to start with a Classical Guitar (Nylon stringed acoustic guitar - not steel string) for musical and technical reasons.
Pupils must purchase their own guitar as we do not provide them. The guitar should have nylon strings and the following sizes are recommended:
Year 3: ½ size
Year 4 & 5:¾ size
Year 6: ¾ or full size (depending on the pupil’s high)*
*Note: All these are general guidelines which may vary for several pupils. But in the majority of cases, those are the recommended sizes.
This is an Electric Guitar. It consists in a series of microphones (called 'Pick ups') on the front which are plugged into an amplifier or sound system through a cable. They can be very loud so we only use them for private tuition in the comfort of your own home!
